The Bustard Can Sing

On a morning game drive in the Mara North Conservancy, we encountered a black-bellied bustard sitting on a small mound close to the side of the track, so we stopped to capture the bustard in the warm light.

We watched and photographed it for a while, studying the calling patterns of the bird, and then when we were familiar with the behavioural pattern, we fired off a rapid series of shots to capture its call.

Here in this image, I have captured the bustard at full neck extension during its call.
