Fresh from a Mud Bath

This was our first sighting of the critically endangered white rhino in Motswari Private Game Reserve, located on the western boundary of Greater Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga province, South Africa.

This rhino and two others had just emerged from a mud bath and drink in a watering hole, and soon wandered off.

In this image, behind the rhino's right hind quarter can be seen a post, against which the rhino is rubbing.

He spent a few minutes having a jolly time rubbing himself against that post while the mother and calf headed off. We soonafter followed them towards the riverbed south of here, where they crossed.
